Indigo Matrix

Indigo Matrix: is an exhibition at the Astoria Visual Arts in Astoria Oregon, centered in plant based blue. The show welcomes the public into a space of possibilities and transformation, a collaborative show curated by Iris Sullivan Daire.

This invitation into indigo exhibit contains:

The Matrix: - 21 pieces measuring 24” x 24” by select indigo artists from near and far. Inviting the viewer to experience a diverse sampling of indigo art traditions and innovations. Work includes: plethora of techniques on cloth and works on paper arranged in a grid.
Off Grid Indigo: Part II of the invitational is accessed through a portal - with work that expands beyond the boundaries of the 24” x 24” format. Work includes: handweaving, collage, painting, and printmaking.
Installation: Navigation - setting sail to our benevolent Future- installation built by Iris Sullivan Daire & Joe Garrison. A boat with indigo dyed cloth sail, and navigation scrolls. The sail and scrolls are sewn from strips inscribed with the collective visions for a positive future contributed by over 130 individuals. The inscribed cloth strips were collected at community events throughout 2022, and dyed in indigo by a group of 4 homeschool children that Iris works with. This portion of the exhibit features a participatory component, collecting more future vision sample strips from gallery visitors for future incarnations of the project.
Vessels - 2 large scale hand-built ceramic vats by artist Colin Meston hold indigo vats at the west end of the studio, and three smaller pots hold living Persicaria tinctoria plants - bringing the soul indigo into the space.
