The Cloth At Hand - Self Paced Online Course

This is grassroots natural dyeing - a support trellis for developing your naturalist dyer skills. Creating color from dye plants you can forage from the landscape around you, grow in pots, or salvage from food waste. With cloth you can scrounge from your closet or thrifted things, we dismantle and reinvent our relationships with the land, and the objects in our everyday life. The last module offers options for sewing useful textiles with the repurposed cloth you dye in the course.

Learn to:

  • set up your dye space, including how to create a portable dye lab that fits in a 5 gallon bucket.

  • prepare the cloth you gather to receive the dye with scouring and mordanting

  • plain dyeing to create various visual textures

  • botanical printing directly printing leaves and flowers on cloth

  • bundle dyeing for all over abstract designs

  • modify with post dye dips

  • dismantle and reconfigure our cloth into a cross back apron and more.

This is a self paced course, with video, and downloadable handouts. Questions are answered regularly in the comments.
